Symptom

Attempts to update firmware on the Broadcom NetXtreme II 10 Gigabit Ethernet Express Fiber SR Adapter, Option part number 42C1790, using UpdateXpress System Pack Installer (UXSPI) will fail with the error message:

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

• VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.0 with IBM Customization Installable, any Update
• VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.1 with IBM Customization Installable, any Update

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Option part number:

• NetXtreme II 10 Gb Ethernet Express Fiber SR Adapter, Option part number 42C1790, any replacement part number

This tip is not system specific.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Workaround

The NetXtreme II 10 Gb Ethernet Express Fiber SR Adapter has been withdrawn from use.

Firmware updates should not be run in VMware ESXi 5.x for this withdrawn adapter.
