Symptom

The IBM UpdateXpress System Pack Installer (UXSPI) 9.30 is unable to detect the installed version of the IBM ServeRAID M5000 SAS/SATA Controller firmware properly.

When trying to install the latest version, for example, v12.12.0-0133, the UXSPI will add the requisite v. 12.12.0-0085 to the compare results.

The compare result will be shown as follows:

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

• UpdateXpress Service Pack Installer, version 9.30

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

• ServeRAID M5014 SAS or SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0916, any replacement part number (CRU)
• ServeRAID M5015 SAS or SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0829, any replacement part number (CRU)
• ServeRAID M5025 SAS or SATA Controller, Option part number 46M0830, any replacement part number (CRU)

This tip is not system specific.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in UXSPI 9.40.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

This issue can be ignored safely as it has no functional affect.

Additional Information

The double package listing does not affect the firmware update process for ServeRAID M5000 Series SAS/SATA Controller firmware.
