Problem
IBM MegaRAID Storage Manager and the LSI Configuration Utility shows a maximum stripe size of 64 KB for the IBM ServeRAID M5110 and M5110e SAS/SATA controller, while the ServeRAID M-Controller documentation lists a maximum stripe size of 1 Megabyte (MB).

Symptom
IBM MegaRAID Storage Manager and the LSI Configuration Utility shows a maximum stripe size of 64 KB for the IBM ServeRAID M5110 and M5110e SAS/SATA controller, while the ServeRAID M-Controller documentation lists a maximum stripe size of 1 Megabyte (MB).
Affected Configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3550 M4, type 7914, any model
- System x3650 M4, type 7915, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM options:
- ServeRAID M5100 Series 1 GB Flash/RAID 5 Upgrade for IBM System x, option 81Y4559, any replacement part number
- ServeRAID M5100 Series 512 MB Flash/RAID 5 Upgrade for IBM System x, option 81Y4487, any replacement part number
- ServeRAID M5110 SAS/SATA Controller Card, option 81Y4481, any replacement part number
- ServeRAID M5110 SAS/SATA Controller for IBM System x, any replacement part number
- ServeRAID M5110e SAS/SATA Controller for IBM System x, onboard, any embedded
This tip is not software specific.
Workaround
Users should install an IBM ServeRAID M51000 Series Cache or Flash upgrade option to obtain the maximum stripe size of 1 Megabyte (MB). The optional part numbers are:
ServeRAID M5100 Series 512 MB Cache/RAID 5 Upgrade, option 81Y4485ServeRAID M5100 Series 512 MB Flash/RAID 5 Upgrade, option 81Y4488
ServeRAID M5100 Series 1 GB Flash/RAID 5 Upgrade, option 81Y4580
Additional information
The ServeRAID M5110 or M5110e SAS/SATA controller requires a ServeRAID M5100 Series Cache or Flash upgrade option to obtain the maximum stripe size of 1 Megabyte (MB).
