Troubleshooting
Problem
Fan errors are reported at a low ambient temperature (under 20 degrees Celsius) during IBM System x3630 M4 system power on. Example messages from the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) log: Fan / cooling device 2 (Fan - Fan 1Ab Tach): Assertion: Lower Critical - going low. Trigger threshold value: 1485.00 RPM. Trigger reading: 1485.00 RPM.

Symptom
Fan errors are reported at a low ambient temperature (under 20 degrees Celsius) during IBM System x3630 M4 system power on.
Example messages from the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) log:
| Fan / cooling device 2 (Fan - Fan 1Ab Tach): Assertion: Lower Critical - going low. Trigger threshold value: 1485.00 RPM. Trigger reading: 1485.00 RPM. |
Affected Configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3630 M4, type 7158, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The following system firmware level is affected:
Build ID: 1AOO30D
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of Integrated Management Module II (IMM2) firmware.
The target date for this release is first quarter 2014.
The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Additional information
IMM2 is configured with the default value of the fan speed
ambient temperature. The fan speed value sets with an improper
value when a system is running with ambient temperature less than
20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).
