Troubleshooting
Problem
The issue appears when Service Location Protocol (SLP) special characters (which should be escaped) are introduced in the SLP attributes sent to the SLP requester, for example, "second floor (R2)." When SLP sends out the attribute like this 'room_id=(second floor (R2)),' the extra pair of parenthesis would break the parser at the receiving end. This causes the SLP discovery to fail.

Symptom
The IBM Flex System Manager (FSM) fails to discover the Chassis Management Module (CMM) when the special characters are used in the Management module name, Chassis name, Chassis room, Chassis rack, or Chassis location.
For example:

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 7893, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8721, any model
- Flex System Enterprise Chassis, type 8724, any model
- Flex System Manager Node, type 7955, any model
- Flex System Manager Node, type 8731, any model
- Flex System Manager Node, type 8734, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Flex System Chassis Management Module, Option part number 68Y7029, any replacement part number (CRU)
This tip is not software specific.
The 1.40.0 Build ID: 2PET10K and earlier firmware for the CMM is affected.
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
This behavior was corrected in a CMM firmware 2PET15H and later.
The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround
Do not use the special characters.
