Problem

Due to a hardware limitation in the Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) of the Broadcom 10 GB Quad-Port Ethernet Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4465, and the Broadcom 10 GB Dual-Port Ethernet Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4466, these adapters no longer support management network auto-discovery or Management Channel Auto Discovery (MCAD). If management network auto-discovery is enabled, any of the following symptoms may be seen: Server-blade does not receive an Internet Protocol (IP) address from the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. Server-blade with a statically assigned IP address cannot communicate on the ethernet network. Server-blade will report communication errors in the Advanced Management Module (AMM).

Symptom

Due to a hardware limitation in the Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) of the Broadcom 10 GB Quad-Port Ethernet Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4465, and the Broadcom 10 GB Dual-Port Ethernet Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4466, these adapters no longer support management network auto-discovery or Management Channel Auto Discovery (MCAD).

If management network auto-discovery is enabled, any of the following symptoms may be seen:

Server-blade does not receive an Internet Protocol (IP) address from the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.

Server-blade with a statically assigned IP address cannot communicate on the ethernet network.

Server-blade will report communication errors in the Advanced Management Module (AMM).

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • BladeCenter HS21 XM, type 7995, any model
  • BladeCenter HS21, type 1885, any model
  • BladeCenter HS21, type 8853, any model
  • BladeCenter HS22, type 1936, any model
  • BladeCenter HS22, type 7870, any model
  • BladeCenter HS22V, type 1949, any model
  • BladeCenter HS22V, type 7871, any model
  • BladeCenter LS22, type 7901, any model
  • BladeCenter LS42, type 7902, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Broadcom 10 GB Dual-Port Ethernet Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4466, any replacement part number (CRU)
  • Broadcom 10 GB Quad-Port Ethernet Expansion Card (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4465, any replacement part number (CRU)
