Problem
When starting Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (any service pack) on one of the affected systems, users might see a Trusted Platform Management (TPM) Event 13 error message logged in the Windows System Event Viewer. In Microsoft Windows 2012, users can seea TPM Event 15 error message logged in the Windows System Event Viewer.

Symptom
When starting Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (any service pack) on one of the affected systems, users might see a Trusted Platform Management (TPM) Event 13 error message logged in the Windows System Event Viewer.
In Microsoft Windows 2012, users can see a TPM Event 15 error message logged in the Windows System Event Viewer.
Affected Configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3690 X5, type 7147, any model
- System x3690 X5, type 7148, any model
- System x3690 X5, type 7149, any model
- System x3690 X5, type 7192, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7143, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7191, any model
- System x3950 X5, type 7143, any model
- System x3950 X5, type 7145, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 32-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 32-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 32-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012, any service pack
This tip is not option specific.
The system has the symptom described above.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

The TPM Event 13 error can be safely ignored in Windows 2008.
The TPM Event 15 error can be safely ignored in Microsoft Windows 2012.
Additional Information
This is a known issue on some IBM servers running Microsoft Windows 2008 or Windows 2012. This issue causes a response code from the TPM chip, which triggers an event error during start.
The Event 13 messages are not posted to the System Event Log (SEL) in Windows 2008 R2.
