During the system boot, a user will see an error with the following details falsely reported in the Windows System Event Log: Source: meagsas2 Event ID: 11 This occurs when running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with ServeRAID device driver version5.2.103 and MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) installed. An example is shown in the following screen capture from the Windows Administrator Event Log: The false error message occurs only during system start-up. Thereafter, any reported megasas2 Event ID 11is valid. The false error is reported only when MSM is installed.

The false error message occurs only during system start-up.

Thereafter, any reported megasas2 Event ID 11 is valid.

The false error is reported only when MSM is installed.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of the ServeRAID device driver version 5.2.112 or higher for listed operating systems.

The target date for this release is scheduled for second quarter 2012.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

Since this is being falsely reported, it is safe to ignore the System Administrator Event Log entry for megasas2 Event ID 11 during system start-up or MSM start-up.

Additional information

Issuing Event ID 11 was used for debugging purposes in the 5.2 version of the driver. The intent was to issue the event to indicate if there are other valid errors to check the logs.

There is not a valid failure during start-up. The resolution in 5.2.112 is to eliminate issuing the event as a debug aid.
