Symptom

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) or Ethernet port on the System x3100 M4 might sag during shipment. Refer to the following photo for this symptom:

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3100 M4, type 2582, any model

This tip is not software specific.

This tip is not option specific.

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in a future release of the system hardware.

The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2011.

If this symptom has been found on systems that have been shipped, contact the IBM service center to acquire the rubber bumper and install on the side cover.

The rubber bumper will come with Field Replaceable Unit (replacement part number) 81Y7475, miscellaneous parts. Refer to the following diagram to determine where to install the rubber bumper:

Additional information

This symptom might be found after shipment. Excess vibration during shipment could cause the rear USB or Ethernet port to sag.
