RETAIN tip: H204556

Symptom

When a user goes into ServeRAID Manager to change the Data Scrubbing period using the steps below, after pressing "OK", rebooting the server, and after logging back into the operating system and opening ServeRAID Manager to verify the new Data Scrubbing setting, the setting did not save properly.

  1. Access "ServeRAID Manager" and select the ServeRAID Controller.
  2. Change the "Data Scrubbing Period" and click OK.
  3. Exit "ServeRAID Manager" and reboot the system.
  4. Access "ServeRAID Manager" again to verify the change.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • ServeRAID Application CD, any version

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • ServeRAID-8i Controller, Option part number 13N2227, replacement part number 39R8731 - Adapter
  • ServeRAID-8k SAS Controller, Option part number 25R8064, replacement part number 25R8076 - Adapter
  • ServeRAID-8k-l SAS Controller, Option part number 39R8729, replacement part number 39R8731 - Adapter
  • ServeRAID-8s SAS PCIe Controller, Option part number 39R8765, replacement part number 39R8785 - Adapter

This tip is not system specific.

The 17003 revision or below firmware for the ServeRAID 8x Controllers is affected.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in a firmware update for the ServeRAID ServeRAID-8i, 8k, 8k-l, 8s controllers.

Additional information

In the existing firmware (version 17003 and lower), when the Data Scrubbing rate is set in ServeRAID Manager, the firmware modifies the setting to the default value of thirty (30) days instead. During system reboot, the value of the scrub rate will be retried from the firmware default settings.

A new firmware will be released that will preserve the new Data Scrubbing setting properly.
