Symptom
In the PCI Information page generated by Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot, the Slots table shows the PCIe slot "In Use" when no device is connected to the slot.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3100 M4, type 2582, any model
- System x3250 M4, type 2583, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) 3.40, any edition
- IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 3.40, any edition
This tip is not option specific.

Solution
This behavior is corrected DSA 9.00.
The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
The user can extract the xml.gz and check the value of "CurrentUsage" of instance "IBMSG_SystemSlot":
- If the value is 3, then the correct state is Available.
- If the value is 4, then the correct state is In Use.
