Problem
The Ethernet adapter options listed may be shipped with legacy boot Read Only Memory (ROM) code only. This issue can be seen on a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) system if you go into F1 setup, then select System Configuration and go to theNetwork menu. The adapter Network Interface Controller (NIC) ports will not be displayed.

Symptom
The Ethernet adapter options listed may be shipped with legacy boot Read Only Memory (ROM) code only.
This issue can be seen on a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) system if you go into F1 setup, then select System Configuration and go to the Network menu. The adapter Network Interface Controller (NIC) ports will not be displayed.
Affected configurations
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Intel Ethernet Dual Port Server Adapter I340-T2 for IBM System x, Option 49Y4230, CRU 49Y4232
- Intel Ethernet Quad Port Server Adapter I340-T4 for IBM System x, Option 49Y4240, CRU 49Y4242
- PRO/1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter by Intel, Option 39Y6126, replacement part number 39Y6128
- PRO/1000 PT Quad Port Server Adapter, Option 39Y6136, replacement part number 39Y6138

Solution
Download the Intel software CD version v15.7 release at this IBM support URL for IBM System x Intel-based Ethernet:

Create a CD from the ISO image for the v15.7 software CD. Go to \Boot_UEFI_ISO, read the efi_boot_update.txt for information and instructions on how to use this bootable CD image to automatically update the boot ROM on the adapter to combined UEFI/Legacy boot code.

The Ethernet adapter options listed may be shipped with legacy boot ROM code only.
For UEFI support for the boot ROM on these adapters, you will need to flash update the boot ROM to combined UEFI and legacy codes.
