Problem
On System x3850 X5 or System x3950 X5 systems, the Integrated Management Module (IMM) hangs after a sequence of Out-Of-Band (OOB) flashes. Once this happens, users will be unable to log into the IMM Web interface, and the IMM will not respond to some webor Command Line Interface (CLI) commands. This is an intermittent issue not likely to occur.

Symptom
On System x3850 X5 or System x3950 X5 systems, the Integrated Management Module (IMM) hangs after a sequence of Out-Of-Band (OOB) flashes. Once this happens, users will be unable to log into the IMM Web interface, and the IMM will not respond to some web or Command Line Interface (CLI) commands.
This is an intermittent issue not likely to occur.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3850 X5, type 7143, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7191, any model
- System x3950 X5, type 7145, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The following system firmware level(s) are affected:
- IMM yuooA6a
Solution
None, this is a permanent restriction, see the Workaround section.
Workaround
If this issue occurs, the IMM needs to be reset. This can be done using telnet CLI, IPMItool, or any in-band tool.
Telnet CLI:
| telnet <host Internet Protocol (IP)> (login) resetsp |
IPMItool:
| ipmitool -H <host IP> -U <username> -P <password> mc reset cold |
Additional Information
This symptom was identified during internal testing and was not able to be recreated after many attempts.
If this issue occurs in the field, the client should contact IBM support, open a case, provide configuration details, operating system, and firmware code levels so that IBM can attempt to recreate the issue, root cause and provide a fix if possible.
