Problem

After running IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) with the --disable-IMM-LAN option on VMware ESX 3.5 or 4.x, the service console network settings and virtual machine (vSwitch) network settings created by DSA are not automatically removed. For example: esxcfg-vswif -l or esxcfg-vSwitch -l

Symptom

After running IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) with the --disable-IMM-LAN option on VMware ESX 3.5 or 4.x, the service console network settings and virtual machine (vSwitch) network settings created by DSA are not automatically removed.

For example:

 

esxcfg-vswif -l
or
esxcfg-vSwitch -l

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) 3.10, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) 3.20, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) 3.30, any edition
  • VMware ESX Server 3.5, any Update
  • VMware ESX Server 4.0, any Update
  • VMware ESX Server 4.1, any Update

Solution

This behavior is corrected in DSA 3.40.

Workaround

The user should manually remove the service console network settings and the virtual machine (vSwitch) network settings.

Additional information

DSA uses the common script to enable/disable Universal Serial Bus (USB) over Local Area Network (LAN), but in this script, only the service console network setting is stopped when disabling USB over LAN.

The common script needs to be updated to remove the service console network settings and the virtual machine (vSwitch) network settings.
