Troubleshooting


Problem

When using the Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN Dual-port SFP+ 10GbE PCI-E 2.0 Adapter MNPH29C-XTR with IBM part number 81Y1540, some adapters may not contain Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) firmware and may not be able to PXE boot. An indication of this symptom is the "Press Ctrl+B to set up the adapter" message during system Power On Self Test (POST).

Symptom

When using the Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN Dual-port SFP+ 10GbE PCI-E 2.0 Adapter MNPH29C-XTR with IBM part number 81Y1540, some adapters may not contain Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) firmware and may not be able to PXE boot.

An indication of this symptom is the "Press Ctrl+B to set up the adapter" message during system Power On Self Test (POST).

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • IBM System Cluster 1350, type 1410, any model

Workaround

Use the latest firmware provided for the card, which can currently be found at the following URL:

After downloading this, follow the instructions on the following page to flash the firmwares used on the adapter:

  http://www.mellanox.com/content/pages.php?pg=firmware_NIC_FW_update

Additional information

The Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN adapter has two (2) different storage areas for the firmwares that are applied to it. One of the storage areas is adapter firmware and the other is the PXE firmware. Some adapters may not have the PXE firmware installed initially.
