Problem
The ServeRAID-7K firmware now provides advance monitoring capabilities to inform users when it is time to replace the ServeRAID-7K battery.
When using the IBM ServeRAID-7K firmware with the latest IBM ServeRAID IPSSEND utility v7.12.14, the user can run the following command to get additional data from the battery:
ipssend GETBATTINFO

Symptom
The ServeRAID-7K firmware now provides advance monitoring capabilities to inform users when it is time to replace the ServeRAID-7K battery.
When using the IBM ServeRAID-7K firmware with the latest IBM ServeRAID IPSSEND utility v7.12.14, the user can run the following command to get additional data from the battery:
| ipssend GETBATTINFO <controller number> BATTLIFETIME The Battery age is: <Number> Days <Number> Hrs <Number> Min <Number> Sec. |
Note: The battery age should not cross 18 months (540 Days).
When using the IBM ServeRAID-7K firmware v7.12.14 and the IBM ServeRAID Manager Build version 16999, the following message will appear in the event logs:
| The Age of the battery has exceeded its optimal Life time by [<Number> Days <Number> Months]. Needs replacement: [Controller <Number>] |
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- xSeries 236, type 8841, any model
- xSeries 346, type 1880, any model
- xSeries 346, type 8840, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- ServeRAID-7k Controller - Cache Battery for 7k, replacement part numbers 39R8804, 90P5245
- ServeRAID-7k Controller, Option 39R8800 replaces 71P8642, replacement part number 71P8644 - Adapter
This tip is not software specific.
The ServeRAID 7.12 IPSSEND utility is affected.

Users can download the latest IBM ServeRAID Firmware and IPSSEND Utility v7.12.14 from the following URL:
