Problem

Symptom

Installation planning may be required when upgrading from any of the following (older Type 2130) 3000 VA Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), due to differences in size, to any of the newer Type 5395 UPS, shown below:

 

Type 2130:

- IBM UPS 3000XLV, 2130-R30
- IBM UPS 3000XHV, 2130-R31
- IBM UPS 3000LV, 2130-1RX
- IBM UPS 3000HV, 2130-2RX
- IBM UPS 3000JLV, 2130-1JX
- IBM UPS 3000JHV, 2130-2JX

Type 5395:

- IBM UPS 3000 VA LCD 3U Rack UPS 100 V / 120 V, 5395-3AX
- IBM UPS 3000 VA LCD 3U Rack UPS 208 V, 5395-3JX
- IBM UPS 3000 VA LCD 3U Rack UPS 230 V, 5395-3KX

Affected configurations

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM options:

  • IBM UPS 3000, option 21301JX, any replacement part number
  • IBM UPS 3000, option 21302JX, any replacement part number
  • IBM UPS 3000, type 2130, any model
  • IBM UPS 3000HV, option 21302RX, any replacement part number
  • IBM UPS 3000LV, option 21301RX, any replacement part number
  • IBM UPS 3000XHV, option 2130R31 (Withdrawn)
  • IBM UPS 3000XLV, option 2130R30 (Withdrawn)

Additional information

The IBM UPS 3000X and IBM UPS 3000 units are 2 U rack units.

This may lead to space problems in racks where the old UPS units have been installed as all 5395-3xX units require 3 U for installation.

Note: The battery modules for extending the UPS runtimes are 2 U units for the IBM UPS 3000X and IBM UPS 3000, whereas the 3000 VA LCD 3U Rack UPS is 3 U.

IBM UPS 3000X: 2 U high, 88.9 MM (3.5 in) high, 430 MM (16.9 in) wide, 685 MM (26.9 in) deep

IBM UPS 3000X Extended Battery Pack: same as IBM UPS 3000X

IBM UPS 3000: 2 U high, 88.9 MM (3.5 in) high, 482.6 MM (19.0 in) wide, 622.3 MM (24.5 in) deep

IBM UPS 3000 Extended Battery Module:

 same as IBM UPS 3000

IBM UPS 3000 VA LCD UPS:

 3 U high, 127 MM (5.0 in) high, 482.6 MM (19.0 in) wide, 528 MM (20.8 in) deep

IBM UPS 3000 VA LCD UPS Extended Battery Module:
same as IBM UPS 3000 VA LCD UPS
