Troubleshooting
Problem
The IBM Systems Director Integrated Management Module (IMM) agent does not report power supply recovery. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue: Discover the system: Open the System Discovery Graphical User Interface (GUI). Discover the endpoint byInternet Protocol (IP) address. Search for both of the Network Interface Controllers (NICs): one is the Agent object, and the other is the IMM object. Add the system into IBM Systems Director. Perform "Collect Inventory" on the system. The resultshows as Complete. Unplug one of the power supplies. The Agent object (operating system MEP) and the IMM object (Server MEP) will report an error. Re-insert the power supply. The Agent object (operating system MEP) will be reported as normal, but the IMM object (Server MEP) will not be reported as normal.

Symptom
The IBM Systems Director Integrated Management Module (IMM) agent does not report power supply recovery.
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:
-
Discover the system:
- Open the System Discovery Graphical User Interface (GUI).
- Discover the endpoint by Internet Protocol (IP) address. Search for both of the Network Interface Controllers (NICs): one is the Agent object, and the other is the IMM object.
- Add the system into IBM Systems Director.
- Perform "Collect Inventory" on the system. The result shows as Complete.
- Unplug one of the power supplies. The Agent object (operating system MEP) and the IMM object (Server MEP) will report an error.
- Re-insert the power supply.
The Agent object (operating system MEP) will be reported as normal, but the IMM object (Server MEP) will not be reported as normal.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3200 M3, type 7327, any model
- System x3200 M3, type 7328, any model
- System x3250 M3, type 4251, any model
- System x3250 M3, type 4252, any model
- System x3250 M3, type 4261, any model
- System x3550 M3, type 4254, any model
- System x3550 M3, type 7944, any model
- System x3630 M3, type 7377, any model
- System x3650 M2, type 4199, any model
- System x3650 M2, type 7947, any model
- System x3650 M3, type 4255, any model
- System x3650 M3, type 7945, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- IBM Director, any version
This tip is not option specific.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.
Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of IBM Systems Director 6.2.1.
The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2010.
The file is available by selecting the appropriate machine type on the 'Software and device drivers - IBM System x' web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
View the Agent object (operating system MEP) or IMM web page. The IMM Web will report "recovery" event and the status will be reported as "Normal."
Additional information
The filter does not take effect because mgmtType of the IMM resources have the wrong format.
