Troubleshooting
Problem
On System x3850 X5 and System x3950 X5 installed with more than 64 logical processors/cores, only 64 logical processors will be available to use in Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack, or Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack. To utilize the additional logical processors, the user must upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Edition.

Symptom
On System x3850 X5 and System x3950 X5 installed with more than 64 logical processors/cores, only 64 logical processors will be available to use in Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack, or Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack.
To utilize the additional logical processors, the user must upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Edition.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
- System x3950 X5, type 7145, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
This tip is not option specific.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 to utilize more than 64 logical processors.
Additional information
Windows Server 2008 R2 edition contains support for greater than 64 logical processors.
