2 Terabyte (TB) hard drives do not show as available drives when attached to ServeRAID 8-series controllers.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • IBM 2 TB 7200 rpm NL SATA 3.5-inch Hot-Swap hard drive, Option part number 42D0782, replacement part number (CRU) (CRU) 42D0783
  • ServeRAID-8i Controller, Option part number 13N2227, replacement part number (CRU) 39R8731 - Adapter
  • ServeRAID-8k SAS Controller, Option part number 25R8064, replacement part number (CRU) 25R8076 - Adapter
  • ServeRAID-8k-l SAS Controller, Option part number 39R8729, replacement part number (CRU) 39R8731 - Adapter
  • ServeRAID-8s SAS PCIe Controller, Option part number 39R8765, replacement part number (CRU) 39R8785 - Adapter

This tip is not software specific.

Solution

Update the ServeRAID controller firmware, v5.2-0 build 16002, and ServeRAID Manager to release 9.20 or newer.

Additional information

The new firmware adds support for 2 TB drives. However, hard drives larger than 2 TB will not be supported.
