Problem

If the user has the following scenario: - a system with the Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) created on Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drives - IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot run via F2 or via a CD image in Graphic User Interfaces (GUI) mode - LSIESG:DiskDefaultDiagnostic test executed on each drive connected to the storage controller The drive status will show -Degraded- after the user exits and reboots. This issue occurs with SATA drives on 2.5 and 3.5 inch models, but the issue cannot be seen with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives. The issue can be observed on RAID Controllers MR10il V2, ServeRAID-BR10i, ServeRAID M5015, ServeRAID-MR10is, ServeRAID-MR10i.

Symptom

If the user has the following scenario:

  • a system with the Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) created on Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drives

  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot run via F2 or via a CD image in Graphic User Interfaces (GUI) mode

  • LSIESG:DiskDefaultDiagnostic test executed on each drive connected to the storage controller

The drive status will show "Degraded" after the user exits and reboots.

This issue occurs with 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA drives only (not seen on Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives). The issue can be observed on RAID Controllers MR10il V2, ServeRAID-BR10i, ServeRAID M5015, ServeRAID-MR10is, ServeRAID-MR10i, and the failure may be observed under the following condition/actions:

Environment: RAID 2 or 4 Hard Drive Disks (HDDs) together with a RAID-1 or RAID-10 configuration.

Actions:

  1. Run DSA Preboot via F2 or CD image and type GUI when prompted.
  2. Run LSIESG:DiskDefaultDiagnostic on drives in array.
  3. Exit and reboot and press CTRL+C.
  4. Check the Primary or Secondary Drive Status. It will display "Degrade".

Affected configurations

  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 1.11, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 1.12, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 1.13, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 1.14, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 1.15, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 1.16, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 2.30, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 2.33, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 2.34, any edition

This tip is not option specific.

The system is configured with SATA Raid.

Solution

This behavior is corrected in DSA Preboot version 3.20.

Workaround

  1. Do not use the DSA Preboot Diagnostics hard drive self test if the system in the RAID configuration is configured with SATA drives.

Due to a data corruption issue discovered, LSI has fixed the issue and implemented the solution in their new release of function and support.
