Troubleshooting
Problem
IBM Storage Configuration Manager (SCM) is installed on a laptop and is working. When attaching to a different BladeCenter S chassis, the user is unable to connect to the RAIDed Shared Storage Modules (RSSMs) in the chassis. SCM will load, but the user will not see the RSSMs in the Graphical User Interface (GUI). This issue occurs when the IP address changes on the system that SCM was originally installed on. For example: GWMSB2057E failed to add 10.4.1.16 10.4.1.17 this can occur when connecting to a new BCS or reconnecting to an old BCS after changing the IP address.

Symptom
IBM Storage Configuration Manager (SCM) is installed on a laptop and is working. When attaching to a different BladeCenter S chassis, the user is unable to connect to the RAIDed Shared Storage Modules (RSSMs) in the chassis. SCM will load, but the user will not see the RSSMs in the Graphical User Interface (GUI).
This issue occurs when the IP address changes on the system that SCM was originally installed on.
For example:
| GWMSB2057E | failed to add 10.4.1.16 10.4.1.17 |
this can occur when connecting to a new BCS or reconnecting to an old BCS after changing the IP address.
Affected configurations
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- IBM Storage Configuration Manager (SCM) , any version
This tip is not hardware specific.
This tip is not option specific.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.
Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/Workaround
Uninstall and then reinstall SCM with the new Internet Protocol (IP) configuration on the laptop.
Additional information
Static IP address requirement:
Make sure that the server where IBM SCM was installed uses a static IP address.
When managing an IBM BladeCenter S Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) Controller Module through IBM SCM, it is imperative that the IP address of the server where IBM SCM is installed does not change. If the IP address of the server changes, and the IBM BladeCenter S SAS RAID Controller Module loses communication with IBM SCM through a reboot or another process, communication will not be reestablished.
