[This abstract has been concatenated due to length constraints] Updating the on-board LSI controller firmware through Windows Server 2008 R2 (WS08R2) will not work at this time. An error message states that the expected LSI driver version is not high enough. Symptom

Updating the on-board LSI controller firmware through Windows Server 2008 R2 (WS08R2) will not work at this time. An error message states that the expected LSI driver version is not high enough.

The following update files are affected:

this update. Please update your device driver and reboot

your system. The driver update is not complete until you

reboot your system. After rebooting, rerun this update.

Note: Changing the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) driver to a different version will not solve the issue. The driver is already at version 1.28.x and the minimum expectation is 1.25.x.

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

Paddle board with LSI 1064E SAS Controller
ServeRAID-BR10il SAS/SATA Controller Kit, Option 44X0411

The LSI firmware flash utility is affected.

The BIOS firmware for the LSI1068e\1064e\BR10i\LSI1078 is affected.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of the LSI Flash utility.

The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2009.

Workaround

Update the LSI \ BR10i firmware while another Operating System (OS) is loaded. The Windows updates will work on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, but not WS08R2.

If the user does not have one of the above mentioned Windows OS to use, Disk Operating System (DOS) is an alternative for all servers except for the HS22, the x3650M2, x3550M2, and the dx360M2 (iDataPlex).

Additional information

The issue stems from the version information not being in the expected field.
