Troubleshooting
Problem
When an error occurs on the PCI bus, the system generates one System Event Log event to inform users. Rarely, the system may simultaneously report an invalid memory disabled event. Resolving The Problem
Source
RETAIN tip: H196043
Symptom
When an error occurs on the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus, the system generates one System Event Log (SEL) event to inform users. Rarely, the system may simultaneously report an invalid memory disabled event.
Here is an example of the SEL when the failed symptom occurs:
(S.2018001) PCIe Uncorrected Error Detected
(W.50001) DIMM Disabled
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3550 M2, Type 4198, any model
- System x3550 M2, Type 7946, any model
- System x3650 M2, Type 4199, any model
- System x3650 M2, Type 7947, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The following system BIOS level(s) are affected:
- Version 1.03 - Build ID: D6E128A or prior levels
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
This behavior is corrected in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) version 1.04 - BuildID: d6e131b or later.
The file is available from the IBM System x Support Web site at the following URL: http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/
Workaround
Disregard the memory disabled event if the 'MEM' LED on the light path diagnostics panel is not lit.
Additional information
This is due to improper Intel Memory Reference Code in Version 1.03 - Build ID: d6e128a or prior versions. A true memory disabled event always occurs with the lit 'MEM' LED. The current version of UEFI corrects this issue.
