Problem
When using Microsoft's High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster Manager to provision nodes, if two (2) or more drivers with the same name exist, only the last driver added to the Windows Imaging Format (WIM) install source will be installed. When this occurs, the installer may fail to access hardware during the installation, or the Windows Device Manager may not find a driver for some hardware.

Issue
When using Microsoft's High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster Manager to provision nodes, if two (2) or more drivers with the same name exist, only the last driver added to the Windows Imaging Format (WIM) install source will be installed.
When this occurs, the installer may fail to access hardware during the installation, or the Windows Device Manager may not find a driver for some hardware.
Affected configurations
This tip is not hardware specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The HPC Cluster Manager utility is affected.
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 64-bit, any service pack
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Workaround
There are two (2) possible workarounds for this issue.
Workaround 1
If the install has finished, complete these steps:
- Check Device Manager and verify that the drivers have been installed.
- If the drivers are not installed, they can be installed manually at this point.
Workaround 2
If the installation failed because there is no driver found or the deployment of drivers are desired at install time, complete these steps:
- Add the drivers for each installation for a selection of hardware.
- Delete the list of drivers after the installation completes.
- Add the next list of drivers to install for a different selection of hardware.
- Repeat as necessary.
Additional information
When installing drivers, if there is a collision with the name of the setup information file (.inf), then the installer will install only the most recently added .inf file.
Some vendors will use the same names for their drivers across multiple products, which may aggravate this issue.
In a future release, Microsoft may allow for separate lists of drivers to be slipstreamed into images.
