Problem
The 31.4 gigabytes (GB) Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) solid state drive (SSD) cannot be configured for use by the LSI controller. The SSD drive will display "unconfigured bad" in the LSI MegaRAID Storage Manager software and Web Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) utility.
Resolving The Problem
Source
RETAIN tip: H195939
Symptom
The 31.4 gigabyte (GB) Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) solid state drive (SSD) cannot be configured for use by the LSI controller. The SSD drive will display "unconfigured bad" in the LSI MegaRAID Storage Manager software and Web Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) utility.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- BladeCenter HS12, type 8028, any model
- BladeCenter HS22, type 7870, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- 31.4 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD Value G2-HS, Option 41Y8264 (CRU Tier 1 = 41Y8267)
- 31.4 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD Value G2-HS, Option 43W7648 (CRU Tier 1 = 43W7651)
This tip is not software specific.
Workaround
Replace the 31.4 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD option 43W7648 (CRU1 43W7651) with the 31.4 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD option 41Y8264 (CRU Tier 1 = 41Y8267).
Additional information
The option 43W7648 SSD drive will immediately exhibit this behavior with LSI MegaRAID controllers and will not be usable. The option 43W7648 drive is not 48-bit addressable, and therefore the LSI controller cannot configure the drive for use. The option 41Y8264 drive is fully 48-bit addressable and can be used without any issues.
