Problem

When provisioning (deploying) nodes using Microsoft Windows High-Performance Computing (HPC) Server 2008 version 2.0.1551.0, the following message will display for the duration of the provisioning action on the default window for the node selection: assigning node template

Symptom

When provisioning (deploying) nodes using Microsoft Windows High-Performance Computing (HPC) Server 2008 version 2.0.1551.0, the following message will display for the duration of the provisioning action on the default window for the node selection:

  assigning node template

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 32-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 32-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 32-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 64-bit, any service pack

This tip is not hardware specific.
This tip is not option specific.

  • The Compute Cluster Pack utility is affected.

Workaround

The user can view the actual progress of the provisioning by clicking the Provisioning Log tab in the Node Management section of the HPC Cluster Manager.

Additional information

This symptom is seen because a generic message is used that does not reflect the actual state of the node. Microsoft considers the template not to be assigned until provisioning completes. The user can view the progress of provisioning in the log. There is no fix planned by Microsoft at this time.
