Symptom
In the example shown below, after a user performs these steps to rebuild a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) 5 array with one of the following IBM ServeRAID controllers and the MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) application, when exiting the menu, the MegaRAID Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) utility displays abnormally.
Steps to recreate the issue:
- Press Ctrl+H to enter the MegaRAID BIOS Configuration Utility (when legacy Option Read Only Memory (ROM) initial).
- Create four (4) SATA Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) to RAID 5 mode.
- Remove 1 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) from RAID 5 Group.
- Insert the HDD again, then click physical view.
- Click HDD then change to Make Unconfigured Good.
- Select Replace Missing Physical Device (PD) --> Go.
- Click Rebuild drive.
- When the HDD rebuild begins, exit the MegaRAID BIOS utility.
Note: The MegaRAID BIOS utility should display the following message when exiting the menu, however, the message is not displayed:
| Please Reboot your System |
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3400 M2, type 7836, any model
- System x3400 M2, type 7837, any model
- System x3500 M2, type 7839, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- LSI Logic MegaRAID Storage Manager, any version
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- ServeRAID-BR10il SAS/SATA Controller Kit, Option 44X0411
- ServeRAID-MR10M SAS/SATA Controller, Option 43W4339
- ServeRAID-MR10i SAS/SATA Controller, Option 43W4296
- ServeRAID-MR10ie (CIOv) Controller for IBM BladeCenter, Option 46C7167
- ServeRAID-MR10is Vault SAS/SATA Controller, Option 44E8695
- ServeRAID-MR10k SAS/SATA Controller, Option 43W4280
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software. Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/
Additional information
Although the message is not displayed properly when exiting, the behavior is normal. Once the server has rebooted by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del or by using the server reset button, once the controller BIOS loads, the array status should show a rebuild state has started.
