Troubleshooting
Problem
The x3550 Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) log or Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) events may log the following event: Cable / interconnect 3 (Cable/Interconnect - DASD BP Detect): Deassertion: Device Removed / Device Absent. The BMC parser will flag the event as a "DASD backplane cable removed" event. Issue occurs in BMC firmware update versions 1.42 (GFBT58AUS) and earlier

Symptom
The x3550 Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) log or Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) events may log the following event:
| Cable / interconnect 3 (Cable/Interconnect - DASD BP Detect): Deassertion: Device Removed / Device Absent. |
The BMC parser will flag the event as a "DASD backplane cable removed" event.
Issue occurs in BMC firmware update versions 1.42 (GFBT58AUS) and earlierAffected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM Servers:
- System x3550, type 1013, any model
- System x3550, type 1913, any model
- System x3550, type 7978, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- ServeRAID-8k SAS Controller, option 25R8064
- ServeRAID-8k-l SAS Controller, lption 39R8729
This tip is not software specific.
Solution
This message will be removed from the next iteration of BMC firmware.
The target date for this release is scheduled for second quarter 2009.
The file will be available from the IBM System x Support web site at the following URL:
Additional information
This message is informational and can be ignored. The event is actually stating that the direct access storage device (DASD) cable was detected.
When power is removed and reapplied, the BMC is reset and it logs this event as it scans the DASD bus and detects cable connection to DASD backplane.
This message is similar to a double-negative statement: Deassertion of a disabled/removed device is the same as Assertion of an enabled/added device.
