DDS/6 is missing small bezel to work with some servers - IBM System x

Problem

A user purchases a DDS Generation 6 USB Tape Drive and is trying to install it using the Tape Enablement Kit (TEK), Option 43V5959, into one of the following servers: - System x3650 (Type 7979) - System x3655 (Type 7985) They are missing the correct bezel for 3.5 Bay. The TEK should have included the correct bezel, but only includes one for a DDS Generation 5 Tape Drive, which cannot be used for the DDS Generation 6 USB Tape Drive.

Symptom

A user purchases a DDS Generation 6 USB Tape Drive and is trying to install it using the Tape Enablement Kit (TEK), Option 43V5959, into one of the following servers:

  System x3650 (Type 7979)
System x3655 (Type 7985)

They are missing the correct bezel for 3.5 Bay. The TEK should have included the correct bezel, but only includes one for a DDS Generation 5 Tape Drive, which cannot be used for the DDS Generation 6 USB Tape Drive.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3650, type 7979, any model
  • System x3655, type 7985, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • DDS Generation 6 USB Tape Drive, Option 39M5636
  • Tape Enablement Kit, Option 43V5959

This tip is not software specific.

Additional information

Some of the TEK did not ship with the 3.5 bezel for the DDS

Generation 6 USB tape drive, therefore, when the TEK is being used in one of the following servers, the user will not have a bezel that will fit into the TEK:

  - System x3650 (both 2.5 hard disk drive's and 3.5 hard disk drive's)
- System x3655 (both 2.5 hard disk drive's and 3.5 hard disk drive's)

The user will need to order replacement part number 46C5363 to have the correct 3.5 bezel for the TEK to fit in the above servers.

The issue has been resolved but there maybe some Tape

Enablement Kits that have escaped the process and are missing the required 3.5 in Bezel.
