Windows installation by ServerGuide 7.x causes CHKDSK error - Servers

Problem

When Microsoft Windows 2003 with SP1 (or later) is installed by ServerGuide 7.x on 40 GB logical drive, and the partition size is set to maximum size during setup, one or both of the following symptoms will occur: 1. Backup for the operating system installed partition fails. 2. The "CHKDSK C:" command shows the following errors after the installation: Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 48 in file 14725. Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 80 in file 14725. Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 144 in file 14725. Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 80 in file 15093. Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 160 in file 15093. Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 176in file 15093. 22432 file records processed. File verification completed. 10 percent complete. Issue

When Microsoft Windows 2003 with SP1 (or later) is installed by ServerGuide 7.x on 40 GB logical drive, and the partition size is set to maximum size during setup, one or both of the following symptoms will occur:

  1. Backup for the operating system installed partition fails.
  2. The "CHKDSK C:" command shows the following errors after the installation:
  • Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 48 in file 14725
  • Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 80 in file 14725
  • Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 144 in file 14725
  • Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 80 in file 15093
  • Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 160 in file 15093
  • Deleted corrupt attribute list entry with type code 176 in file 15093
    22432 file records processed
  • File verification completed
  • 10 percent complete. (1 of 4 large file records processed) Deleting orphan file record segment 15100
  • Deleting orphan file record segment 22400
  • 4 large file records processed
  • Deleting orphan file record segment 22402
  • Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode

  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
  • ServerGuide Release 7.4, any version

Solution

Use ServerGuide Software 8.1 or later, if supported.

Workaround

If the system is only supported by ServerGuide 7.x, perform one of the following:

OPTION 1:

  • Use Logical Drive which has more than 40 GB and set partition size to maximum

OPTION 2:

  • Set partition size to more than 41000 MB or less than 40900 MB during ServerGuide setup

When 40 GB logical drive is used also, do not set partition size to 40000 MB or 40960 MB (maximum partition size), but set partition size to less than 40900 MB.

If the CHKDSK error occurs after the installation with ServerGuide, run defrag on Microsoft Windows 2003.

Additional information

ServerGuide 7.x is based on Linux and creates a partition with FAT32 file system during setup, then windows converts it to NTFS, which would cause a CHKDSK error with some partition sizes.

On the other hand,ServerGuide 8.1 or later is based on Microsoft Windows PE, and creates a partition with NTFS directly, so it does not need the conversion, which does not cause the CHKDSK error.
