Problem
After following the procedure for clearing the Administrator and User passwords in BIOS setup documented in the Service Guide, the passwords remain operational on the subsequent reboot of the server.

Symptom
After following the procedure for clearing the Administrator and User passwords in BIOS setup documented in the Service Guide, the passwords remain operational on the subsequent reboot of the server.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3450, type 7948, any model
This tip is not option specific.
This tip is not software specific.
Additional information
- Power down the system (do not disconnect the AC power).
- Open the system.
- Move the J1D2 jumper from the normal operation position, Password Clear Protect, covering pins 1 and 2 to the Password Clear Erase position, covering pins 2 and 3.
- Close the system.
- Power up the system.
- Press F2 during POST to access the BIOS Setup . The BIOS setup error manager will report an error saying the password jumper is set and has cleared the passwords.
- Exit BIOS Setup.
- Power down the system; do not disconnect the AC power.
- Open the system.
- Return the Password Reset jumper to the Password ClearProtect position, covering pins 1 and 2.
- Close the system.
- Power up the system.
- The password is now cleared and can be reset by accessing the BIOS setup.
This is a permanent behavior.
