Problem
The VMware ESXi 3.5 product Recovery CD contains an invalid image. If it is used by a user to recover a corrupted system, it will cause issues when the user contacts VMware for support or updates. This only affects systems that have had their embedded VMware ESXi 3.5 image replaced with the image contained on the affected Recovery CD.

Symptom
The VMware ESXi 3.5 product Recovery CD Option part number 44W4140 contains an invalid image. If it is used by a user to recover a corrupted system, it will cause issues when the user contacts VMware for support or updates.
This only affects systems that have had their embedded VMware ESXi 3.5 image replaced with the image contained on the affected Recovery CD.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- BladeCenter HS21 XM, type 7995, any model
- System x3850 M2, type 7141, any model
This tip is not option specific.
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- VMware ESX Server 3i version 3.5 Embedded, any update
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution
Order the new recovery CD replacement part number (FRU) 46D0762. This contains the new recovery CD Option part number 46M1600 from IBM Support.
If the embedded VMware ESXi image on your system fails/gets corrupted, reinstall the image using the new recovery CD following the instructions titled "Recovering the ESX Server 3i Embedded Software" in the VMware ESX Server 3i Embedded Setup Guide which is available at the following URL:
