USB 2.0 will be downgraded to USB 1.1 during POST - IBM System x3350 (Type 4192)

Troubleshooting


Problem

1. Plug in an USB 2.0 device to the front USB port. 2. Power-on the system and check the POST information. 3. The USB device information is incorrect and will show the USB 1.1 device. Example: 1. Connect a USB 2.0 device to front USB port (USB 2.0 SanDisk U3 Cruzer Micro). 2. Power-on the system and check the POST information. 3. The USB device information is incorrect: Fail, POST displays : USB 1.1 : SanDisk U3 Cruzer Mirco.

Symptom
  1. Plug in an USB 2.0 device to the front USB port.
  2. Power -on the system and check the POST information.
  3. The USB device information is incorrect and will show the USB 1.1 device.

Example:

  1. Connect a USB 2.0 device to front USB port (USB 2.0 SanDisk U3 Cruzer Micro).
  2. Power -on the system and check the POST information.
  3. The USB device information is incorrect:
    Fail, POST displays : USB 1.1 : SanDisk U3 Cruzer Mirco.
Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3350, Type 4192, any model

This tip is not option specific.

This tip is not software specific.

Solution

This issue is under investigation.

The target date for an update to the system BIOS is scheduled for First Quarter 2008.

Workaround

The user should use the rear USB port if the need arises to use the USB storage device.
