Resolving The Problem

RETAIN tip: H191559

Symptom

The current version of the BladeCenter Management Module (MM), replacement part number part number 39M4945, has a new low profile release handle that could make the Ethernet RJ45 connector difficult to remove.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • BladeCenter Chassis, Type 8677, any model

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Redundant KVM/Management Module, Option p/n 48P7055, replacement part number p/n 39M4945

This tip is not software specific.

Solution

To properly remove the RJ45 Ethernet cable, the user must disengage the lever and pull back approximately one-half inch until there is enough room to remove the cable. Disengaging the lever one-half inch is not enough to unseat the MM.

Additional information

The new low-profile handle interferes with the release clip on the RJ45 connector. Pulling back the handle enough to remove the connector will not cause the MM to disengage from the BladeCenter bay, or otherwise cause any errors or failures.
