RETAIN tip: H191384
Symptom
---
Upon initial power up, the IBM 4U Universal Tape Library 3361-4LX will display the following message on the operator control panel:
"Are the packaging materials removed? Yes or No"
Affected configurations
---
This Tip is not hardware specific.
This Tip is not software specific.
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- IBM 4U Universal Library, type 3361, model 4LX
Solution
---
The library installation kit includes a wooden dowel with a steel needle protruding. Use this tool to open the doors of the powered off 4U library unit. There is a small hole in the middle of the door in which the tool is to be inserted.
Open both doors and remove the packaging as instructed below:
- Remove the tie band by depressing the release tap. Do not cut the tie band.
- Remove the metal restraints from the library.
- Carefully remove the foam restraints from the library without disturbing the robotics cable.
- Safely store the metal restraints, the tie band, and the foam restraints, as they must be reinstalled when transporting the library or library chassis. This will avoid any damage to the library robotics.
Workaround
---
An alternative for completing the action requires a Phillips 1.5 mm screwdriver.
The following is the procedure on how to remove the robotics packaging of the library:
- Remove the screws that secure the pass-through cover and top cover to the library. Then remove the pass-through cover and top cover.
-
Remove the internal packing material:
- Remove the tie band, but do not cut it through because that holds the metal restraints together.
- Remove the metal restraints from the library.
- Carefully remove the foam restraints from the library without disturbing the robotics cable.
- Safely store the metal restraints, the tie band, and the foam restraints as they must be reinstalled when transporting the library or library chassis. This will avoid any damage to the library robotics.
- Make sure that the robotics cable is correctly installed and not laying across the robotics track.
- Install the top cover and pass-through cover on the library.
Additional Information
---
After unboxing and rack setup has been performed on the IBM 4U Universal Tape Library 3361-4LX, and upon initial power up, a message will post on the operator control panel:
"Are the packaging materials removed?"
Answer "Yes" to continue or "No" to remove.
With this message, the library refers to the internal robot shipment protection packaging. The robot protection packaging consists of two metal brackets, a left side styrofoam cover, a right side styrofoam cover, and a removable tie band.
If the packaging has not been removed, respond "No" and the library will shut down.
This library POST message ensures that the library is ready for operation.
