PnPBIOS: Warning! Your PnP BIOS caused a fatal error
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3800, Type 8865, any model
- System x3850, Type 8863, any model
- System x3950, Type 8872, any model
- System x3950E, Type 8874, any model
- xSeries 260, Type 8865, any model
- xSeries 366, Type 8863, any model
- xSeries 460, Type 8872, any model
- xSeries MXE 460, Type 8874, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- SUSE Linux 7.3, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux Professional 8.0, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux Professional 8.2, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux SLES 7, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux SLES 8, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux SLES 8 for Itanium, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux SLES 8 for x86, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux SLES 9, any Service Pack
- SUSE Linux SLES 9 for AMD64/EM64T, any Service Pack

The SLES9 32-bit kernel displays the error message "PnPBIOS: Warning! Your PnP BIOS caused a fatal error." during boot because it is expecting the pnp facilities of the BIOS to assign resources to the parallel port.
The parallel port located off the south bridge is not externalized on these systems and, therefore by design, is disabled by the BIOS. It is safe for the end user to ignore this message. This message will be removed in later versions of SLES.
