Solution

This issue will be corrected in ServerGuide version 7.3.06, scheduled for release fourth quarter 2005.

Workaround

This problem does not occur if the 15,000rpm SAS hard rives are connected to a ServeRAID-8i SAS controller. The operating system may also be installed manually.

Additional information

The symptoms occur with ServerGuide versions 7.3.03, 7.3.03a, 7.3.04, and 7.3.05 on an xSeries 260 system with any of the
following hard drives connected to the onboard SAS controller:

  • 36GB hot-swap 3.5 inch 15K RPM Ultra320 SAS hard drive (26K5697)

  • 146GB hot-swap 3.5 inch 15K RPM Ultra320 SAS hard drive (26K5699)

This issue is caused by a device driver included in ServerGuide. A newer device driver which corrects the issue will be included in ServerGuide 7.3.06.The latest ServerGuide version is available at the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD version 7.3.06 - Servers. The referenced file will be available from the Servers - ServeRAID Software Matrix. It will be available from the ServerGuide Electronic fulfillment web site and is included with new servers.
