Problem

This document provides McData Switch Module troubleshooting information.

Resolving The Problem

Note: McDATA 6-Port Fibre Channel Switch Module (32R1790)

  1. To begin troubleshooting, check the following top issues. If your issue is listed, select the link, otherwise proceed to step 2.

  1. Check the LED indicators. The switch module LEDs are useful tools in investigating a problem with the McDATA FCSM:

    McDATA status LEDs

    LED
    Description
    LED meaning when lit
    Power-On LED Illuminates green Indicates that the voltage to switch module is in the proper range.
    Switch Fault LED Illuminates amber Indicates an over temperature condition or a POST (Power On Self Test) error.
    Port Logged-In LED Illuminates green Indicates that a device is logged into the port.
    Port Activity LED Illuminates green Indicates that data traffic is passing through the port.
    Port Fault LED Illuminates amber Indicates a port fault.


  2. The McDATA FCSM has a support log which can be retrieved for technical support purposes. All the log files and switch memory data are combined into this core dump. It can be retrieved by various means such as:

    • Hyperterminal
    • Telnet
    • FTP
    • McDATA SANbrowser
    • BladeCenter Management Module
