Problem

When running Qldirect filter driver on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64, the server could experience Access Violation errors or deadlocks running with 32-bit applications.

Symptom

When running Qldirect filter driver on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64, the server could experience Access Violation errors or deadlocks running with 32-bit applications.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM eServer systems:

  • IBM BladeCenter HS20, type 8832, any model
  • IBM BladeCenter HS20, type 8843, any model
  • IBM xSeries 460, type 8872, any model
  • IBM xSeries 366, type 8663, any model
  • IBM xSeries 346, type 8840, any model
  • IBM xSeries 336, type 8837, any model
  • IBM xSeries 306, type 8836, any model
  • IBM xSeries 236, type 8841, any model
  • IBM xSeries 206, type 8482, any model

The system is configured with one (1) or more of the following Fibre Channel Solutions:

  • IBM FAStT EXP100 Expansion Unit, type 1710, model 10U
  • IBM FAStT600 Storage Server, type 1722, model 60U
  • IBM FAStT EXP700 Expansion Unit, type 1740, model 1RU
  • IBM FAStT700 Storage Server, type 1742, model 1RU
  • IBM FAStT900 Storage Server, type 1742, model 90U
  • IBM FAStT200 Storage Server, type 3542, model 1RU

The BIOS level(s) affected is/are:

  • All

The Firmware level(s) affected is/are:

  • All

The following operating systems are affected:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, x64 Standard Edition, with Service Pack 1 applied.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, x64 Enterprise Edition, with Service Pack 1 applied.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, x64 Datacenter Edition, with Service Pack 1 applied.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, x64 Web Edition, with Service Pack 1 applied.

This applies to the performance filter driver (not the standard driver) for the QL2340 adapter.

Solution

TBD.

Workaround

Do not run 32-bit apps with QLogic QlDirect Filter Driver under x64 OS. Run the standard miniport driver instead (either SCSIport or Storport).

Additional information

Access Violation Errors / Deadlocks occur with the QLogic Qldirect Filter driver. System functions correctly with QLogic standard miniport driver.
