Firmware update needed for LG 40X CD-ROM drive - IBM IntelliStation

Troubleshooting


Problem

Systems configured with an LG 40X CD-ROM drive may experience the following: No disc, disc not recognised, or data corruption.

Resolving The Problem

Symptom

Systems configured with an LG 40X CD-ROM drive may experience the following:

  • For systems configured with the operating system Microsoft Windows 2000, if there is no disc in the CD-ROM drive when Windows 2000 initializes, the CD-ROM drive will not be recognized by the system. A CD-ROM icon will not be displayed in Windows explorer and the secondary IDE port may be disabled in device manager.

    Note: If there is a disc in the CD-ROM drive at initialization, the drive is recognized by the operating system and works as required.

  • For IBM PC 300PL (Type 6584, 6594, 6862, 6892) systems configured with Japanese Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, data corruption may occur.
  • For IBM PC 300GL (Type 6563, 6564, 6574, 6593) systems configured with Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows NT, or Microsoft Windows 2000 may hang when an attempt is made to access the CD-ROM drive. * Systems configured with Microsoft Windows 95 the system may take two minutes or longer to access a multi-session disc, such as a Photo CD.
Affected configurations

The above symptom may occur on the following machines:

  • IBM Intellistation E Pro (Type 6867, 6893)
  • IBM Intellistation M Pro (Type 6868, 6878, 6889, 6897)
  • IBM Intellistation Z Pro (Type 6865, 6866)
  • IBM PC 300GL (Type 6263, 6265, 6267, 6268, 6275, 6277, 6278, 6287, 6288, 6285, 6338, 6563, 6564, 6574, 6593)
  • IBM PC 300PL (Type 6565, 6584, 6594, 6595, 6862, 6872, 6890, 6892)

Note: The IBM field replacement unit part numbers (FRU): 09N0845, 36L8757, 36L8713, 36L8747, 09N0881, or 09N0879 for LG 40X CD-ROM drives may be affected.

Solution

Firmware update v.1.12 for the LG 40X CD-ROM drive has been released. Download and install the latest Firmware update for LG 40X CD-ROM drive.

Note: This solution is not operating system dependent.
