Troubleshooting
Problem
Management Module power demand exceeds a single power module - IBM BladeCenter
Resolving The Problem
Source
---
RETAIN tip: H067860
Symptom
---
When a BladeCenter chassis fully configured with IBM BladeCenter
HS20 blades, a power policy setting "Redundant with
performance impact.", and all blades are powered on, the following
message appears:
"Demand exceeds a single power module, throttling can
occur."
This message will appear in the Management Module Event Log,
System Status Summary and main Fuel Gauge Power Domain page.
Affected configurations
---
The system may be any of the following IBM Systems:
- BladeCenter, type 8677, any model
- BladeCenter, type 8843, any model
The 73E Firmware for the BladeCenter Management Module is affected.
Solution
---
None. The BladeCenter Management Module is working as designed.
Note: These messages are only warnings of what could potentially happen in the unlikely event of an actual power supply failure.
Additional information
---
This message occurs when the overall demand has exceeded the requirements for a single power supply. Therefore, in a redundant configuration with a performance impact policy, throttling would only occur in the event of a power fault on one of the power supplies.
