Symptom
---
File corruption is detected after a rebuild operation has completed. The corruption can be determined through the use of a filesystem checking tool, like chkdsk for the Microsoft windows family of operating systems. File corruption might also cause unbootable system, data loss, application errors, etc.
Affected configurations
---
The system is configured with the following ServeRAID options:
- Netfinity ServeRAID-4H Ultra160 SCSI Controller, marketing part number 37L6889, replacement part number (FRU) 37L6892 (controller), replacement part number (FRU) 37L6902 (cache daughter card), replacement part number (FRU) 37L6903 (cache battery)
- Netfinity ServeRAID-4L Ultra160 SCSI Controller, marketing part number 37L6091, replacement part number (FRU) 09N9540.
- Netfinity ServeRAID-4M Ultra160 SCSI Controller, marketing part number 37L6080, replacement part number (FRU) 37L7258.
- Netfinity ServeRAID-4M Ultra160 SCSI Controller (Japan), marketing part number 19K0565, replacement part number (FRU) 00N9543 (Japan).
- ServeRAID-4Lx Ultra160 SCSI Controller, marketing part number 06P5740, replacement part number (FRU) 06P5741.
- ServeRAID-4Mx Ultra160 SCSI Controller, marketing part number 06P5736, replacement part number (FRU) 06P5737.
- ServeRAID-5i Controller, marketing part number 25P3492, replacement part number (FRU) 02R0970 replaces 32P0016, 25P3482 - Battery
- ServeRAID-6M Controller (128MB Cache), marketing part number 32P0033, replacement part number (FRU) 13N2197 replaces 02R0985.
- ServeRAID-6M Controller (256MB Cache), marketing part number 02R0988, replacement part number (FRU) 13N2198 replaces 02R0998.
- ServeRAID-6i Controller, marketing part number 71P8595, replacement part number (FRU) 71P8627.

- ServeRAID-7k Controller, marketing part number 39R8800 replaces 71P8642, field replacement unit (FRU) 71P8644
The system has the symptom described above.

ServeRAID controllers have the ability to increase the size of a logical drive by adding an additional hard disk drive to an existing array. The operation is called a Logical Drive Migration (LDM).
A defect has been found in which after an LDM operation has taken place, some parts of the RAID configuration are not updated accordingly. This causes subsequent rebuild and synchronization operations to complete only up to the point where the old, smaller logical drive used to reside. This leaves the new area of the logical drive in an invalid state. Affected ServeRAID versions are 7.10.20 and earlier.
