Symptom
When attempting to use the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Driver CD to upgrade the BASP (Broadcom Advanced Server Program) driver (6.2.11), the Installation application (setup.exe) will appear to have installed the driver.

However, when the system is rebooted the driver is still at the original level prior to upgrade attempt.

  • IBM BladeCenter, any model
  • IBM BladeCenter HS40, any model
  • IBM BladeCenter HS20, any model
  • IBM BladeCenter HS20, any model

  • IBM BladeCenter T, any model

The following operating systems are affected:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information:

http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/

The BASP (Broadcom Advanced Server Program) BASPW2K.SYS Device Driver is affected.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Driver CD.

The target date for the release is scheduled for: 4th quarter, 2004

It will be available from the IBM xSeries Support web site, at the following URL:

http://www.ibm.com/sytems/support

Workaround
The BASP (Broadcom Advanced Server Program) can be installed when there is not a pre-existing BASP on the operating system.

For systems that have the BASP installed, users will need to break any failover or load balance teams, and uninstall the BASP using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in the operating system Control Panel.

Once the BASP is uninstalled, the installation utility will install the latest level code without error.

Additional information
There is a defect in the Installation application that is resolved in the follow on CD.
