Symptom
IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6229) users are not prompted with “F1 to enter Setup” at startup. When the system is started up, during post there is no option (F1) presented to users to enter the BIOS Setup. Most IBM systems present a user with the “Press F1 to enter setup” at the beginning of post.

Affected configurations

  • IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6229)

Workaround

  1. Shut the system down.
  2. Push in the power button and at the same exact time press the F1 key repeatedly for the next 10 seconds.
  3. Wait patiently for another minute and the system should enter the BIOS setup program at this time.
NOTE: There is no acknowledgement that F1 was pressed, while the system is entering Setup. Optionally once you are in Setup, you can disable the Intel Rapid BIOS Boot option in the BIOS setup. To do this, scroll to the Boot option tab. Locate the Intel Rapid BIOS Boot option and set to Disabled.

Additional information
The Intel Rapid BIOS Boot option is Enabled in the system BIOS by default. This skips the F1 prompt by design.
