Problem
A Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) error occurs, resulting in an unexpected system reboot. This can occur if an affected adapter is operating at PCI-X 64/133 speed in shared PCI slots, with one of the two slots not being populated or used.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM eServer xSeries servers:
- An IBM eServer xSeries 360, type 8686, any model (with affected adapters in Slots 1+2)
- An IBM eServer xSeries 440, type 8678, any model (with affected adapters in Slots 3+4)
- An IBM eServer xSeries 445, type 8870, any model (with affected adapters in Slots 3+4)
- An IBM eServer xSeries 450, type 8688, any model (with affected adapters in Slots 3+4)
- An IBM eServer xSeries 455, type 8855, any model (with affected adapters in Slots 3+4)
- An IBM eServer xSeries RXE-100, type 8684, any model (with affected adapters in Slots 1+2, or Slots 3+4, or Slots 5+6, or Slots 7+8, or Slots 9+10, or Slots 11+12).
The system is configured with one of the following options:
- NetXtreme 1000 T Dual-Port Ethernet Adapter, option part number 31P6401, replacement part number (FRU) 31P6409.
- PRO/1000 MT Dual-Port Server Adapter by Intel, option part number 73P2701, replacement part number (FRU) 73P2709.
Either adapter is in a shared slot with one of the two slots not occupied.
This is independent of the operating system or device driver software level used.

For xSeries 360 system:
The adapters are supported in slots 1 and 2 for PCI-X 64/100 only when both slots of the shared bus are populated.
For xSeries 440, 445, 450, 455 systems:
The adapters are supported in slots 3 and 4 for PCI-X 64/100 only, when both slots of the shared bus are populated or move the adapter to a non-shared slot (Slot 5 or 6).
For xSeries RXE-100 option:
The adapters are supported in any of the shared slots for PCI-X 64/100 only when both slots of the shared bus are populated.
