Symptom
Certain monitors operating outside of the normal operating frequency parameters of the IBM eServer RSA II will give an "Out of Frequency" error message upon booting up the server with the RSA II card. While the server boots normally, only this message will flash on the screen of the monitor.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM e(logo)servers:
- an IBM eServer BladeCenter, type 8677, any model.
- an IBM eServer BladeCenter HS40, type 8839, any model.
- an IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, type 8678, any model.
- an IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, type 8832, any model.
- an IBM eServer BladeCenter JS20, type 8842, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 365, type 8861, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 365, type 8862, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 345, type 8670, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 305, type 8673, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 255, type 8685, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 235, type 8671, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 225, type 8647, any model.
- an IBM eServer xSeries 205, type 8480, any model.
The system is configured with the following option(s):
- an IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II, option p/n 59P2984, FRU 02R1654.
- an IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II-EXA, option p/n 13N0382, FRU 73P9246.
Solution
Contact your local IBM Support Center for a required file to fix this synching issue between low end monitors and the RSA II card.
Workaround
Due to Remote Graphics not being affected by this issue, as a workaround until the application of the code fix, you can remotely view all of POST and manipulate the video parameters in the operating system being used to a lower refresh rate and recover operating system graphic capability if lost with the low end monitor.
Additional information
There were a limited number of RSA II cards that were built with a back level code that does not allow the RSA II to identify and sync up with the monitor in question locally. Remotely, there is no affect on the video output through the RSA II.
