Brightstor ARCserve Backup v9.0 for Novell NetWare 5.x and 6.x cannot read/write to tape media.

Symptom
Brightstor ARCserve Backup v9.0 for Novell NetWare 5.x and 6.x cannot read/write to tape media.

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM e(logo)servers:

  • an IBM eServer xSeries 345 (Type 8670), any model.
  • an IBM eServer xSeries 235 (Type 8671), any model.
  • an IBM eServer xSeries 225 (Type 8647), any model.

The system is configured with the following adapter:

  • a PCI Ultra160 SCSI Controller, option p/n 19K4646, FRU 06P2215.

The PCI Ultra160 SCSI Controller is connected to one (or more) of the following tape drives:

  • 20/40GB DDS4 SC40 option p/n 09N0730 FRU 48P7038
  • 20/40GB DDS4 SP40 option p/n 00N7991 FRU 48P7040
  • 40/80GB DLTVS option p/n 24P2398 FRU 24P2424
  • 80/160GB VXA-2 8mm option p/n 59P6746 FRU 59P6746
  • 100/200GB F/H LTO option p/n 00N8016 FRU 37L5799
  • 100/200GB H/H LTO option p/n 24P2396 FRU 24P2400
  • 110/220GB SDLT option p/n 00N8015 FRU 24P2418
  • 120/240GB DDS4 option p/n 00N7992 FRU 24P2413
  • 160/320GB SDLT option p/n 59P6736 FRU 59P6737
  • 3607-16X SDLT Tape Autoloader
  • 3607-26X LTO Tape Autoloader
  • 4560-SLX Tape Library
  • IBM 200/400GB Linear Tape Open (LTO) Tape Drive (GEN2)

The tape drive may be configured with any of the following external SCSI enclosures:

  • External FH SCSI Tape Enclosure 3503B0X 03K8703
  • External FH SCSI Tape Enclosure 3503B1X 03K8703
  • External HH SCSI Tape Enclosure 3510020 03K8762
  • External HH SCSI Tape Enclosure 3510030 03K8762
  • IBM NetBay Tape Enclosure 0034B0X 59P6732
  • NetMedia Storage Expansion 3551001

The following NOS(es) are affected:

  • Novell NetWare, version 5.x
  • Novell NetWare, version 6.x

The following tape backup software is affected:

  • Brightstor ARCserve Backup 9.0 for NetWare

Solution

  1. From the console prompt, type ASTOP (to stop ARCServe).
  2. Edit the 'tapesvr.cfg' file (in the SYS:ARCserve folder) by adding the following:

    Buffer=0
     
    [Config]
     
    wshots=1
    rshots=2

  3. Press ESC (to save and exit).
  4. Type ASTART (to restart ARCserve).
