Symptom

  • The system is an IBM IntelliStation M Pro (type 6850) with BIOS 27A and one IDE hard disk drive (HDD) installed.
  • When you attempt to boot to the IDE HDD, the system will not see the IDE HDD.

Affected configurations

  • The system might be any model of the IBM IntelliStation M Pro, type 6850.
  • The BIOS level affected is 27A.

Solution

Download and apply the IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6850) Flash BIOS Update, version DAE130A, or higher.

Workaround

  1. Go into System Setup by pressing F1 during POST.
  2. Go into Start options and select Startup Sequence.
  3. Select Hard Drive Boot Priority (the last option).
  4. Using the plus ( + ) and minus ( - ) keys, move the IDE hard drive to the first choice, and move Bootable Add-in card to the second choice.
  5. Save and exit setup.

Additional information

The system is not booting past the Bootable add-in card option in the startup sequence; this behavior is fixed in BIOS 28A.
