Symptom

An IBM eserver xSeries 340 or an Netfinity 4500R server (each with a RAID 5 configuration) might report either of the following two system error messages:

  • "System running non-redundant power"
  • "Recovery system running non-redundant power"

Affected configurations

  • The system might be any model of the xSeries 340, type 8656.
  • The system might be any model of the Netfinity 4500R server, type 8656.
  • The system service processor code level is 1.16 or earlier.

Solution

Download and apply the xSeries 340 and Netfinity 4500R - Advanced System Management Firmware Update, version 1.18 (or later).

Workaround

Ignore the false redundancy power error messages.

Additional information

The erroneous messages reported on either an xSeries 340 or Netfinity 4500R (each with RAID 5) will be addressed in the next release of the service processor code.
 
The reported errors are false and they may be ignored.
